Medical Surgical Nurses Perceptions of the Social Determinants of Health

Nurses advocate for social determinants of health because the SDOH impact prevention and treatment of health conditions. Additionally, it is imperative that medical surgical nurses address the SDOH during discharge planning and processes to ensure a safe transition from hospital to home and community. This study seeks to find the perceptions of the social determinants of health of medical surgical care nurses. Perceptions include confidence, likelihood to ask, knowledge, frequency of asking, and barriers.
