As the national professional association for medical-surgical nurses, AMSN is committed to supporting our members as they navigate the rapidly changing landscape of healthcare policy.
Like many nursing organizations, AMSN has been closely monitoring the Presidential Actions and Executive Orders issued by the current administration in Washington DC as we know many of these will have a direct impact on our medical-surgical nursing community, including the orders and actions related to:
- Removal of content from federal agency websites that house key clinical, evidence-based data, decision making tools, and public health trends
- Withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO)
- Federal funding freezes and/or cap on healthcare related research and support that impacts nursing practice and programs
- Executive orders that affect private sector programs which promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and may impact social determinants of health and patient health outcomes
We know this is a dynamic and complex time, and AMSN remains committed to our mission and to supporting nurses in providing quality patient care.
We standby all our current AMSN Position Statements, including our statements on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Political Awareness for the RN; and Social Determinants of Health.
As these developments unfold, AMSN will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates. It’s essential for every medical-surgical nurse to stay informed, understand how these changes might affect our nursing community and patient care, and continue to follow and advocate evidence-based practice. AMSN will continue to identify resources which will provide support to you and your practice.
Thank you for your continued commitment to medical-surgical nursing and your engagement and support of AMSN.
