It is amazing to think that AMSN has been supporting and educating medical-surgical nurses for three decades.
AMSN plans to have lots of fun celebrating 2021 and our medical-surgical nursing specialty so check the AMSN
Connections app, make sure AMSN has your email
so you get the information about weekly contests in your inbox, and check the website frequently to find information
about the activities and fun.
AMSN Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary
You can also find us on social media so like, follow, or subscribe to our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube channels.
Speaking of the AMSN website, there are several items to check out. Registration has opened for our 30th Annual 2021 Convention.
Right now, we are hoping to have it in person, but it will also be offered virtually. Our virtual convention last
year was so much fun, we decided to continue the virtual component for future conventions. The conference will be
held September 29th-October 3rd at the Omni Orlando Resort at Champions Gate in Orlando, Florida.
If you know you are going to attend either in person or virtually, register now—early bird pricing is open
until March 31st! Do not forget to check out the Grants and
Scholarships section of our website to apply for a convention grant to assist you in covering costs.
30 years! It is amazing to think that AMSN has been supporting and educating
medical-surgical nurses for three decades!
Each year, AMSN recognizes a few deserving members with some special awards. Nominations are currently being accepted
for the Clinical Practice Award and the Clinical Leadership Award through March 31st. I hope you
will consider nominating your colleagues for one of these prestigious awards.
Recognizing a peer for their dedication to their patients and their impact on medical-surgical nursing can be just as
rewarding for the person nominating the recipient. Recipients get special recognition at the annual convention and
highlighted in our social media and publications.
Another way to recognize your peers and your unit team is to apply for the AMSN PRISM Award®. If you have not looked
into it, the AMSN PRISM Award is co-sponsored by AMSN and the Medical-Surgical
Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB). PRISM stands for Premier Recognition In the Specialty of Med-Surg.
It was created at the request of AMSN members who wanted an award to recognize the exemplary practice of
medical-surgical units. It definitely takes a team to write about how your unit exemplifies and meets the criteria,
and receiving the award validates your hard work and dedication to high quality patient care. There is no end date
to submit a PRISM Award application; they are always being accepted.
March also brings us Certified Nurses Day.
Celebrating your certification is a way to give yourself some recognition on March 19th. If you are not yet
certified, March 19th would be a great day to commit to becoming certified or to sign up for an exam date. I wrote
about my certification journey and how proud I am of my CMSRN certification in last month’s blog—check
it out if you need a little motivation.
Thank you for helping us make it to our 30th anniversary. There
would be no AMSN without our valued members, and we could not be more proud of the work you do day in and day out to
care for your patients and each other.
Please continue to let us know how we can support and celebrate you!
