Howdy! I just got back from Austin, Texas, last month for the 2025 AMSN Convention, and y’all, it was bigger than Texas itself! From start to finish, the convention was jam-packed with learning, laughter, and plenty of good ol’ fashioned fun.
The educational sessions were hotter than a jalapeño in July! No matter what your role or stage in your nursing journey, there was something to take home. I found myself scribbling notes, soaking up best practices, taking pictures of posters, and leaving each session with new ideas.
Now, let me tell you, networking in Austin was like striking gold. Whether it was chatting over coffee, swapping stories between sessions, or meeting new friends at receptions, it was powerful to be surrounded by so many like-minded nurses who share the same grit, determination, and heart for medical-surgical nursing.
One of the best highlights had to be the Grand Opening Rodeo Reception in the Exhibit Hall. What a sight to see! Folks came dressed to impress in their boots, hats, and western wear; it was like a real Texas roundup. Between the food, vendors, and laughter, the evening was truly a fun atmosphere and was unforgettable.
I also want to tip my hat to the incredible team that delivered the breakout session on CAVRN certification titled “The Importance of Certification in Virtual Acute-Care Nursing: Insights From the First Year of CAVRN.” Emily Schmidt, BSN, RN, CAVRN, SANE, and Courtney Connors, BSN, RN, CAVRN, did an incredible job answering questions and sharing their expertise. Their session wasn’t just informative; it was interactive, engaging, and downright inspiring. They wrangled a complex topic and made it approachable and exciting. Thank you for lassoing our attention and giving us the tools we need to move forward with confidence related to virtual nursing!
And let’s not forget the CMSRN Certificant Celebration Reception. Talk about a proud moment! It was wonderful to recognize our certified nurses, especially those celebrating milestone years. Honoring their dedication reminds us why certification is such a badge of honor. The hot lunch and CMSRN gifts were the cherry on top. This was a time to break bread, share stories, and keep the celebration going strong as the convention kicked off immediately after.
As I reflect on our time in Austin, I’m filled with gratitude and pride. AMSN isn’t just a professional community; it’s a family. We cheer each other on, share knowledge, and celebrate every victory, big and small.
If you couldn’t join us this year, don’t hang your hat just yet; start planning for next year’s convention, Sept. 24–26, 2026, in Palm Springs, California. Trust me, you won’t want to miss the chance to learn, laugh, and kick up your boots with this incredible community.
Until then, let’s keep the spirit of the convention alive in our daily work. Together, we’re not just making a difference; we’re blazing trails in medical-surgical nursing.
