Outcomes in Action

Spotlighting Our Poster Presenters

The 2024 AMSN Annual Convention Grand Opening Reception was a time to meet, mingle, and stand in awe of the incredible work of our medical-surgical nurse poster presenters.

We had the honor of speaking with a few of our in-person poster presenters about driving forward new knowledge:

What did you enjoy most about your poster work?

Poster: “Combination Learning Theories & Venipuncture: Improving New Nurses’ Peripheral Venipuncture Self-Efficacy”

Reianna Underwood, RN, MSN: “One of the coolest things about this project is that it increased the nurse residents’ confidence and that, in turn, helped them increase their skills.”

Poster: “Unit-Acquired Pressure Injuries (UAPIs) Prevention Bundle: An Initiative to Prevent this Never Event

Felcy Tauro, MSN, RN, RN-BC: “I found great satisfaction implementing evidence-based practices and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to achieve our goals and patient safety.”

Poster: “Check Before They Peck: Managing Inpatient Glycemic Events”

Philip Tomiser, BSN, RN: “This project came about because of wanting to improve management of glycemic events for patients. I didn’t want my patients to have unnecessary interventions.”

Poster: “Power Up PCT’s: A Partnership in Phlebotomy”

Laura Johnson, MSN, RN, CMSRN, NPD-BC: “What I enjoyed most was the collaboration. I had a great team working with me as we developed this project. There was a lot of collaboration between our education team and our phlebotomy team, as well as our inpatient leadership team. There were some great conversations. We were able to decide what barriers we wanted to face and what steps we wanted to take to get the project to be successful. Ultimately, we were not as successful as we wanted to be, so we had to put the program on pause. But we learned so much, and I think when we pick this back up again in a few months, we’ll see some much better results.”

Poster: “Unveiling the Blind Spot: Nurses’ Attitudes, Knowledge, and Perception of Non-Ventilator-Associated Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (NV-HAP)”

Mary C Seyer Signorino, BSN, RN, BSDH, RDH, CMSRN: “I am a nurse and a dental hygienist. I work in periodontics. I love what I do, and I am very lucky. I enjoy helping nurses understand periodontics and how it impacts our patients and our personal lives.”

Poster: “Patient Care Technician (PCT) Standard Work: Does It Improve Outcome?”

Sharinah Haslem, BS, RN, CMSRN: “The thing I’ve enjoyed the most about my poster and research work was the professional growth and development of the PCT, and creating the standard work process to level the playing field. It was a lot of fun doing this with my team.”

Poster: “An Interdisciplinary Approach to Address Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) in a Hospital Setting”

Rebekah Warner, BSN, RN: “This is the process on how we’re going to address social determinants of health, but I think I’ve most enjoyed what it’s actually going to mean to our patients. We’ve already been able to send some patients home with food and give them connections to help with housing and utilities and things. I’m excited to get them the help so they can continue their health journey on a better path.”

There’s still time to stop by the poster presenters! Plus, be sure to catch up on what’s happening in Toronto by reviewing the Day 1 Recap article.
