#AMSN2026 Day 3 Fills Professional Cups and Celebrates Impact

Day three of #AMSN2026 brought the convention to a meaningful close with moments of recognition, reflection, and renewed connection. From honoring poster and journal award recipients to a first-ever live audience recording of Med-Surg Moments, the final day celebrated the voices, stories, and shared purpose of medical-surgical nurses while sending attendees home empowered for what comes next.

Convention Fills Your Cup

The morning began with a never-before-seen event at the AMSN Convention … a live recording of Med-Surg Moments. Before our co-host panelists took the stage, we had a final morning of leadership remarks and research recognition. AMSN President Kristi Reguin-Hartman took the stage one last time for her closing remarks. Dr. Reguin-Hartman shared her story and gratitude for her fellow AMSN members and volunteers before honoring some more awardees.

In addition to the Featured Poster Presenters, for the first time, AMSN recognized the People’s Choice Poster Award and Advancing Medical-Surgical Nursing journal awards. Journal Editor Dr. Janie Robinson joined Dr. Reguin-Hartman on stage to present the journal award. Congratulations to the following award honorees:

  • People’s Choice Poster Award​: Edmon S. Regachuelo, PhD, MAN, BSN, RN, CLSSGB-HC, CMSRN, CLSSGB​
  • Advancing Medical-Surgical Nursing Writing Award for Clinical Paper​: Dr. Gladys Francisque and Dr. Jean M. Berhardt​
  • Advancing Medical-Surgical Nursing Writing Award for Review Paper​: Dr. Rohnda Sullivan
  • Advancing Medical-Surgical Nursing Writing Award for Original Research Paper​: Saddam Hussain, Dr. Laila Ladak, Dr. Aysha Almas and Fauzia Hasnani

After the awards, Dr. Reguin-Hartman invited AMSN President-Elect Jennifer Kennedy-Stringham to the stage for her incoming president’s address. Kennedy-Stringham shared her AMSN story before introducing Med-Surg Moments Live!.

Former podcast co-host Caroline Ashman moderated panelists Dr. Trish West, Samantha Bayne, Dr. Maritess Quinto, and Eric Torres in a riveting, engaging conversation about key convention takeaways, reflections on 35 years of medical-surgical nursing, and, of course, audience engagement. For the first time ever, the live audience decided the direction of the clinical topics of conversation on the podcast episode. The panelists addressed sepsis and nursing burnout in a thoughtful and compassionate way. Then, the panel turned the mic to the audience for Q&A — some of the most powerful moments of the morning.

Empowerment, Engagement, and Day 3 Takeaways

Here’s what the Digital Content Committee and Podcast Subcommittee reporters took away from day three of #AMSN2026.

  • Caroline Ashman said, “Empowerment and impact to me, as a med-surg nurse for 100 years (OK, just 41), never forget you have a voice. Embrace change, collaborate with newer nurses, and embrace each other’s differences and commonalities. At the end of the day, we are here for our patients and #IAmMedSurg.
  • One of the nurses who had a major impact on Med-Surg Moments Live! was Ashley Comeau, who stepped up to the mic during the Q&A portion. After the session, co-host Trish West spoke with Ashley. Ashley is a med-surg nurse of 21 years. Her manager brought her to convention because she wanted Ashley’s cup to be filled. With tears in her eyes, Ashley said, “It has been.” She said she had gotten a new perspective and no longer felt burned out or alone. She is going back home feeling empowered with new initiative! She told Trish to tell the podcast panel, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
  • Sam Bayne echoed that sentiment: “There is nothing more cup-filling than going to convention!”
  • Sam also chatted with Amanda Billups (her poster was across from the Digital Content Committee poster!). One of her takeaways was the different methods for infusing accountability into practice with the nursing scorecards and central line photos. She was also excited about the opportunities for the use of social media platforms to engage learners!
