AMSN President-Elect Accepts New Position as Strategic Advisor to the Chief Nursing Executive at Michigan Medicine
PITMAN, NEW JERSEY - Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) President-Elect Marisa Streelman, DNP, RN, CMSRN, NE-BC, has accepted the position of Strategic Advisor to the Chief Nursing Executive at the University of Michigan-Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, MI.
Dr. Streelman, who began her new post July 11, previously served as a staff specialist with the organization’s nursing leadership team, with concentration in surgical services subsegment in the Adult Hospitals. Previous projects of Dr. Streelman’s include implementing an electronic SBAR for internal transfers and a separate SBAR for external transfers, fall prevention, reduction for length of stay, and safety assistant guidelines. Most recently she completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice in Transformational Leadership: Systems from Rush University.
Dr. Streelman’s nursing career began in Chicago where she was a clinical nurse on an oncology unit, followed by several leadership roles at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She then worked as a nurse manager at the University of Colorado Hospital on an intermediate care unit, and Rush University Medical Center, on a general medicine unit. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Eastern Michigan University, her master’s degree in nursing administration from the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC), and her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Transformational Leadership Systems from Rush University, Chicago, IL.
Dr. Streelman, a resident of Chelsea, MI, will assume the AMSN President role in January 2023. She has been a dedicated and respected leader for AMSN since 2008. Serving as AMSN President for the position’s two-year term, Dr. Streelman will work with the AMSN Board of Directors (BOD) in fulfilling the strategic plan, vision, and goals of the 11,000-member nursing association.
