Award Season

During the last few weeks there have been a number of different awards and annual champions recognized on many different stages for a variety of different fields. We had the Super Bowl Championship, the Emmy Awards, the Golden Globes, the Grammy Awards, the Academy Awards, and, of course, the NCAA National Football Championship, just to name a few. Along these lines, this March, I would like to recognize the work of the AMSN Awards, Grants, and Scholarships Committee. This committee is led by Chair Nelson Tuazon, an AMSN member and nurse leader in San Antonio, Texas. He leads a team of volunteer committee members, with a new vice chair, Salyna Riggs, and a board of directors liaison, Cynthia Rothenberger. This team supports and evaluates all of the individual AMSN awards, scholarships, and grants. Currently, I want to highlight two awards that are open during the month of March: the CMSRN of Distinction Award and the Clinical Leadership Award. Both of these awards are given out annually during the AMSN Annual Convention and provide support for the winner to attend the conference! The CMSRN of Distinction Award is awarded to a nurse who has been recognized as an outstanding certified medical-surgical nurse who is a champion for the medical-surgical specialty through promoting and mentoring certification. The Clinical Leadership Award is given out to an AMSN member who excels as a nurse leader within their unit, organization, or community. Their nomination supports the connection, compassion, and community of what it means to lead as a medical-surgical nurse. 

On our Grants and Scholarships page, you will find the CMSRN Certification grant, the CMSRN Recertification grant, and the Annual Convention grant information. These opportunities are ways AMSN supports our members to get certified, renew certification, and attend convention! Please keep an eye on the dates these awards open, and apply to take advantage of these opportunities. 

Also, March 19 is National Certified Nurses Day! I would like to take a moment to say thank you to all of our certified nurses. You are nationally recognized for your experience and knowledge in your specialty, whether that is medical-surgical nursing or another field. If you are considering getting certified, AMSN can help you with our Certification Review Courses, either online or in person, along with our review materials, which will be getting an update this year. 

Lastly, I wanted to end my message with the exciting news that the new AMSN Medical-Surgical Monitor will be up and available in April 2024! The Monitor will be an area where medical-surgical nurses will find content by medical surgical nurses, for medical-surgical nurses!
